The information on the following pages consist of census data obtained for the purposes of family history research. Obviously, only surnames of interest to myself will appear here, but I hope this page will serve as a useful point of reference for anybody else researching the same surnames.

The households are indexed by address. The year of census and a reference (if available) is given, together with the name of the head of household and a count of surnames appearing in that file. Currently there are three counties available:

The HTML files are auto-generated by a utility which produces the HTML table layout from files containing minimal information about each household. For example, the file:

Census Returns of 1851, HO107/318.1/1927
Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset
/SLADE/William/Head/Mar/39/-/Farmer 82 Ac. Emp. 8 Lab./Shepton Beauchamp/
//Elizabeth/Wife//-/36/-//
//Mary/Dau/-/-/11/Scholar//
//Sarah///-/9///
//George Wm./Son//6/-///
//Edwin///3/-/-//
//John///8m/-///
was used to generate the HTML file under somerset/slade1.htm. Fields are separated by forward slash (/), and empty fields are populated with the value of that field in the previous row. The index information and surname count is also calculated from this same file, and added to the main index file.

Any problems or queries should be directed to me via my contact details.
